Over the past couple of months at The Heights Kinder, our days have been filled with excitement and growth as we’ve witnessed the children actively participating in the enriching learning experiences we offer. Additionally, we were fortunate to host two fantastic incursions.
Book Week 📖
As part of Book Week and following on from Dress Up day, ‘The Flying Bookworm Theatre Co.’ visited our kinder to perform for the children.
Ebony and Jack performed three stories “The Little Red Hen”, “Caps for Sale” and “The Three Billy Goats Gruff”. The children absolutely loved the stories and the funny antics with many opportunities for all the children to participate and be involved.
First Nation Perspectives Cultural Experience with Didgeridoo Australia
Henning, from Didgeridoo Australia came to kinder to teach us about Indigenous Australians culture. It was a highly engaging and informative presentation and discussion.
Henning spoke to us about Indigenous people (who they are, where they come from and their flag), bush food (land and sea), hunting tools (what animals are hunted, by whom and how), musical instruments, arts and crafts.
Authentic objects were passed around for the children to hold, touch and feel such as: animal skins (kangaroo, wallaby and possum), possum skin ball, emu eggs, boomerangs and emu caller.
Henning also demonstrated how to make traditional paint with ochre, charcoal, and water. Indigenous people paint their bodies for special celebrations.
Our Acknowledgement of Country
We’d like to thank the Aboriginal people for sharing their land.
We promise to look after it, the animals and the people too.
