The Heights Kindergarten is connected to Mill Park Heights Child Care Centre. Close to Mill Park Primary School, Stables Shopping Centre and Westfield Plenty Valley, it has operated in the local community for over 30 years.
We like to engage with the children so they can have a voice in their education. The children help set up the rooms to maximise their learning.
Families provide snacks and lunches. However, cooking is an important part of our curriculum. Children help make cakes to celebrate their peers’ birthdays.
Creating different play and learning environments
Our centre has 2 large 33-place rooms and a wonderful outdoor learning area. The space helps us create different play and learning environments. Each room uses a range of recycled, natural and other materials. Large windows provide plenty of natural light, creating a calm environment for children. Quiet places also allow children to reflect and have time to themselves.
The Heights Kindergarten has a stimulating outdoor space containing:
- a giant teepee
- a fairy garden
- a construction wall
- arts and crafts
- a sandpit
- a vegetable garden.
We also use the vegetables grown in our garden in cooking with the children and for celebrations with families and the community.
Building open communication lines
It is important to us that we build clear and open communication lines with our families. We use face-to-face chats, phone calls and email to keep in touch.
