About the centre
The NEW Kirrip Community Centre provides essential services to the booming population in the city’s north. It includes a modern three‑room kindergarten, two fully-equipped maternal and child health consulting suites, a 200sqm community hall, meeting spaces for community groups and a landscaped outdoor area.
The Kirrip Kindergarten, which is part of the community centre has has three large rooms and will run both 4-year old and 3-year old programs in 2022.
At the Y, our curriculum has been built to reflect both the National Quality Framework and Victoria Early Years Learning Frameworks. Where possible we like to engage with the children so they can have a voice in their education. We invite children to make suggestions on how the room should be set up to maximise their learning! Children are also encouraged to set up and pack away their own activities.
Having so much space in this new facility will help us to create different play and learning areas. We have a range of recycled, natural and man-made materials in each room and also large windows which allows us to have lots of natural light that creates a calm environment for children. Within our rooms, there are numerous activities set up to encourage group play and collaboration. In addition to this, we have quiet places which allow children to reflect and have time to themselves.
At kinder the children and family provide snacks and lunches. However, cooking is a very important part of our curriculum. Children can participate in making birthday cakes to celebrate their peer’s birthday! We will also grow our own vegetables in our garden, which we will then harvest and use in cooking with the children, as well as a part of cultural celebrations involving families and our community to share their experiences and knowledge.
Our educators create an open dialogue between parents, educators and children and are always happy to check in with you to discuss your child’s progress.
The Storypark Platform is the way we connect with our families. It’s a great resource for educators, children and families to track milestones in your child’s learning.
We can wait to meet you and be part of your child’s early learning journey!

What we offer
Meet the Manager
Hi I’m Julie Lombardo, the newly appointed Early Years Director for Kirrip kindergarten in Wollert East.
I have worked, studied, and grown in the early childhood industry for more than 25 years. I have experience ranging from room leader to centre director and then Area Management.
I have recently been working in local government and am excited to be coming back to service delivery here at Kirrip kindergarten.
I am really looking forward to working at the kindergarten and with the wider YMCA family to bring quality education and care to the Wollert East community.
I am currently living in the Eastern suburbs with my partner and his two teenage children. We have two staffies called Nudge and Cosmo and an albino python called Legolas (ew! I’m still not great friends with her quite yet). In my spare time I love to bake and will give anything a go just to see how it turns out, some creations are tasty, others not so much, but I live with the motto of “Give it a go.”
In 2022 we will be building our new home back in the north and then moving back here on completion. So, there are lots of exciting adventure coming up, and I can’t wait to share them with you. Please feel free to pop into the kindergarten for a tour after 1st of December and I’d be more than happy to show you around and have a chat about your child.
