Our focus for this term at Galada Kindergarten was reconnecting with our community, strengthening children’s knowledge and awareness about multiculturalism, and promoting inclusive practices.
For that reason, we organised the Indigenous Infusion incursion from Cultural Infusion. All children and educators had the chance to enhance their knowledge about Indigenous culture, including the meaning of each flag and selected songs, and listen to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories and Didgeridoo.
We have also reconnected with the Croatian seniors group. The children already had their first visit, which provided the opportunity for all to start developing positive relationships. All groups also continued to use our community library and explore the community space by participating in various activities and exploring the community through regular nature walks.
This week, we also had a Police officer from the local police station visiting our kindergarten. The lovely Police officer talked about the importance of safety and allowed the children to sit in the police car and use the sirens.
A big part of our curriculum development is following children’s interests; therefore, we organised a special Dino incursion from the Melbourne Museum. The children were able to touch real dinosaur fossils, seeing a real-sized replica of dinosaur skulls, legs, and feet. They also looked at the pictures of various dinosaurs and listened to the facts provided by the qualified Melbourne Museum’s presenter. There was a lot of excitement during that incredible incursion. During the Science Week, children joined in multiple science experiences.
This term, we continued having Magic Dani visit our kindergarten each week and deliver drama/ dance/music sessions to the children. Jo from the Pebble Time incursion visited Echidnas and Platypus groups and delivered her musical entertainment.
This week, we celebrated Book Week, and all the children and educators dressed up as their favourite book characters and participated in a story time and Book Week parade. The children also continue with their Environmental Education incursions, which include water safety, educating children about water bugs and gardening.
