Wow! What an incredible term it has been at Kirrip Kindergarten!
It has been fantastic to see our facility slowly transform into an incredible space for sessional kindergarten and out of school hours care. And as usual, our kinder teams have been working effortlessly to build strong and lasting relationships with our families.
Let’s take a lookback at some of highlights from term one.
Yoga
Our children were introduced to yoga which was explained with a yoga book and special cards. They showed a lot of interest and were so patient when learning!
We began with breathing techniques which was then followed by a range of poses such as the dolphin, the lion, the swan, the crocodile and the frog. We also showed the children some balancing techniques to help strengthen their poses!
Through this experience children develop body awareness, communication skills, cooperation and the ability to mirror, repeat and practice the actions of others. Yoga encourages children to extend on their physical well-being, through a range of body movements and combining both fine and gross motors skills. This can then bring their body down to a level of relaxation and release stress and anxiety.
Who am I? Self portraits
This term, we have been focusing a lot on the question “Who am I?” which is a way children can learn about themselves, each other and continue to build friendships.
Self-portraits has proven to be a very effective way that children can explore their sense of self and identity – understanding similarities and differences between peers.
Practice fire drill
To keep everyone at the centre on their toes, we had a practice emergency fire drill. Teacher Tina blew her whistle three times for the children’s attention.
All children were very compliant and organised. In lines, we all made our way outside to the gate where the children sat down and then their teachers called their names out.
That afternoon we conducted a group time to discuss the fire drill, we asked the children questions about the fire drill that we had.
Harmony Day
Harmony day is a celebration of cultural diversity. The message for Harmony Day is ‘everybody belongs’. This day aims to promote respect for cultural and religious diversity throughout Australia. Orange is the official Harmony Day colour!
We thought a great way to learn about Harmony Day could be through the story ‘You Matter’ by Christian Robinson. This story explains the differences between people around the world and how similarities that join us together. The main message is every day all over the world, children are laughing and crying, playing and learning, eating and sleeping.
We then extended the story by doing a craft activity. Children all had a face, and they were able to decorate the face however they wanted!
Welcome Tash
We are very excited to announce that Tash, our new centre director for Kirrip Kindergarten, will be commencing April 26th.
Tash has a wealth of experience within the early childhood sector and overseeing sessional kindergartens. Welcome to the Y family Tash!
