Term 2 has flown by!
Kirrip Kindergarten would like to thank all families for their engagement and commitment to our kindergarten and community. We were excited to be connected to families during this term as we had the opportunity to have families engage in our environments as we celebrated Mother’s Day morning tea. We look forward to many more opportunities where families children and teachers can connect and engage.
Kirrip celebrated Reconciliation Week, 7th of May to the 3rd of June. These dates remain the same each year as they commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision.
“Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.”
The honeybees created a group art piece to celebrate diversity the things that make me different. The Honeybees had a teacher led discussion about each person being unique, being kind to each other, including one other and recognising our individual differences such as skin colour, hair colour, nationality and religion.
The Honeybees also included activities that celebrate Aboriginal culture:
– Playdoh placemats with Indigenous symbols
– Reconciliation week themed colouring picture that promotes equality, “Be brave and make change” illustrated by an Indigenous illustrator
– Puzzles with Indigenous images
Children have been exploring the outdoors and asking question about their environment and how we look after our plants at Kirrip. The Yellow group filled their buckets with water from our recycled water tap and decided the gardens needed some water to help the plants and flowers to grow.
They assisted one another in filling up their buckets whilst making the long walk back and forth to the garden beds as they all continued pouring the water into the gardens excitedly.
Some children’s comments along the journey:
“I help water the flowers.”
“Uh my bucket is heavy, me pour it in the flowers teacher.”
“I water, water.”
“We need more water in my bucket.”
